SNAPDRAGON PROCESSOR

Introduction:
Snapdragon is a family of system-on-chips(SoCs) designed by Qualcomm, first introduced in 2007. These processors combine a CPU, GPU, modem, and other essential components into a single chip, providing efficient performance for smartphones, tablets, wearables, and even laptops.
Over time, Snapdragon has become the leading processor in mobile computing and powers devices across many brands, especially Samsung, OnePlus, Xiaomi, and Motorola.
TIMELAPSE OF SNAPDRAGON:
2007-12(EARLY STAGES): First Snapdragon processor, ‘QSD8650’, was introduced in 2007, which featured a 1GHz CPU, which became a groundbreaking revolution for smartphones at that time. By 2010, Qualcomm introduced the ‘Snapdragon S1 to S4 series’, which focused on the performance tier. These early chips were made to support 3G networks and laid the earliest foundation for mobile gaming, HD videos, and basic multitasking, which were not available in any other processor at that time.
2013-16(THE RISE OF LTE & 64-BIT ERA): With the rise of 4G LTE, Qualcomm launched the ‘Snapdragon 800 series’, starting with Snapdragon 800 in 2013. It offered faster speeds, better graphics, and improved efficiency. The ‘Snapdrogon 801,805, and 820’ further enhanced multimedia capabilities. By 2015, Qualcomm introduced even better 64-bit processors(Snapdragon 810 and 820) to match growing demands for performance and also memory handling.
2017-20(The way towards modernization: Advancements in AI & connectivity): This was the period when Snapdragons were made to evolve from performance to focus on AI, better camera technology, and connectivity. The ‘Snapdragon 835,845, and 855’ when introduced to the market featured advanced image signal processors, better gaming, and most importantly, it was able to support 4K videos. In 2019, Snapdragons were one of the first SoCs to support 5G networks, which was a huge leap in mobile
communications.

2020-present(5G era and premium computing): At present Snapdragon are at the forefront of 5G and AI-driven 5G platforms. The ‘Snapdragon 865, 888, and 8Gen1’ chips brought cutting-edge improvements in graphics, ML, and power efficiency. In 2022, Qualcomm rebranded the flagship series as ‘Snapdragon 8 Gen1, Gen2, Gen3’, simplifying the name. These processors have many features, including ray tracing in gaming, 8K video recording, advanced AI image processing, and Wi-Fi 7 support are huge revolutions.
Conclusion:
From the first processor of 1GHz till today’s AI and 5G platform, it won’t be a bluff to say that Snapdragon has played a huge role in transforming mobile technology, which has made our lives easier and better. From faster speed to better camera quality to better gaming experience, as of today, Snapdragon has remained one of the widely used processors as it continues to shape the future of mobile and related devices.
