Search for Your Own Self

Author: Kamal Acharyya | Posted on: 31st, Dec, 2024

Having spent my whole life
in pursuing various dreams, at last,
when i opened the chest of new dreams,
came out a small piece of paper with a note –
“It‟s time for you, to search for own self”!

Tell me where and how
can i search “my own self‟?
It’s not like –
playing with my grandson hide and seek,
nor searching for my wife‟s hair clip,
or my spectacle box,
kept somewhere unmindfully;
it is an unseen entity
where do i search for it?

In the golden whisper of the dawn,
in a lonely beach,
in the dusk‟s gentle sigh,
behind the distant hill,
in the patches of white clouds
in blue autumn sky,
in twilights, sitting silently
on the bank of a tranquil lake?

In the greeneries of grain field
stretching beyond the horizon,
in the golden sheaves of paddy
swaying in the gentle wind,
in the strong fragrance of mahua,
in the murmur of forest of sal-segun,
in the cool shadow of bot-asath,
in the fair of colourful flowers?

In the continuous turmoil of
relationships with all –
parents-siblings-wife-children-
grandchildren and all dear ones,
in the nostalgic reminiscence of
the olden days gone by,
in the silent corner of my study?

When i was deeply engrossed
in my thoughts to find an answer
where do i search, where do i search,
suddenly someone whispered in my ear
“Open the chest to get the answer!”
i opened my chest of new dream again
very carefully with inquisitiveness,
and found that small piece of paper
lying quietly in a corner,
with letters written boldly on the back side
“Search for your own self within you”!!
