The Contagion

Author: Anisha Chowdhury | Posted on: 27th, Apr, 2020

The clouds above cried today
To subtly soothe earth’ s pain
Struck with malicious malady
Billions in search of remedy.
The once busiest of roads
Now looked depressingly desolate
As puny humans
Helplessly isolate.
The hubris that guides human beings
to believe they ll conquer all
From abysmal oceans
To beyond mountain peaks
A microscopic minuscule
Ridicules them all.
Nations are surrendering
People are succumbing
But the  ravaging microbe
Still walks on.
The globe updated
To the dark mode
Containing the contagion
Remains the only goal.
Let not the boredom
In time of quarantine
Forget our blessings,
As we pray for our warriors
On the frontline.
Who thought that the nefarious bats
In a distant town
Could Literally turn the entire world
Upside down?!
Perhaps its nature,
Restoration at work
Rebooting, reviving
What is lost through the years?
This wrath was imminent,
Sooner or later
Man’s sins had been endured
Beyond what she could cater.
Humans sadly learn,
But the harsh way
Seems we are nearing
The real doomsday.
With the world in quarantine
The air now is pristine.
Smog nowhere to be seen
Only if this was how
The world had always been.
Living in these days of pandemic,
Has surely strengthened my belief
Every individual is a powerful
Contributor to others’ relief.
I wish when the pandemic ends
Not only nature is revived
But also us, as a race,
That stands strong and unified.
