Venerating Goddesses while being violent towards women is like nurturing a beautiful garden while setting your own
house on fire. Eventually, the garden dies too. Dad’s latest work in honor of Durga Puja in mixed medium.

Legend has it that Albert Einstein’s second wife fell in love with him, listening to him play the violin. Luckily dad didn’t have to work that hard to impress his wife, so he took the easier route in acrylic 🙂 Do share thoughts. p.s. this is my most favorite painting of his 🙂

“If you don’t fight for what you want, don’t cry for what you lost”- Lord Krishna in the Bhagavad Gita Dad wishes everyone a Happy Janmashtami (birth anniversary of Krishna). Do share thoughts 🙂

Fearing a sunstroke, my grandmother would not allow her kids to go play in the scorching afternoon, but my dad would still manage to sneak out! While most retired Calcuttans escape the angry heat with a siesta hugging their ‘kol baalish’ (bolster pillow) under a noisy ceiling fan, my dad is still that little rebel that sneaks out to play with his ink sketchbook 🙂 Do share thoughts on his latest work. Thank you xx #quietafternoon #oldcalcutta

I love sunsets. It reminds me of old people and the many dark days they’ve survived, the stormy seas they’ve rowed through and all the ominous clouds they’ve withstood through their journey to arrive at this gorgeous moment. (Sunset in acrylic)

Most people see a rainy day when they see this painting. But if you have some connection to Calcutta you immediately yearn for some khichuri and illish maach bhaja to go with. (Monsoon in acrylic)

Just like Lord Krishna vowed to reincarnate repeatedly to salvage humankind whenever needed, I am sure dad wishes to be reborn again and again as a painter in every birth 🙂 His latest depiction of Krishna in acrylic.

“Better than a thousand hollow words is one word that brings peace”- Buddha. In my case that word would be Dad 🙂 Here’s his latest work in soft pastel in honor of Buddha Purnima.

You are bound to get lost in Varanasi with its millions of chaotic lanes and by lanes. But then again you’ll probably find something along the way that your soul always searched for 🙂 Dad’s latest trip in watercolor. ‘Benaras Ghat’.

My humble tribute to ALL the WOMEN in the world …. “” mrinmoyee theke manabi “” …. charcoal on paper “” Shakti Rupeno sangsthita “”….:.

On quiet lazy afternoons in Calcutta, sometimes your siesta would be interrupted by the sounds of the cotton weavers on rooftops of stately houses, where proud families ensured the quality of their winter blankets by personally overseeing the process 🙂Dad’s latest in mixed medium ( charcoal and pastel).

“”Chorono dharite diyogo aamare …… “” …. my humble prayer to MY MASTER ….charcoal on paper

Merry Christmas, humble prayer in a charcoal paper.

Traffic in the city can be cumbersome, so Dad takes you sightseeing in Calcutta with ink, charcoal and a drizzle of watercolor 🙂 Do share thoughts…

Art can be quite deceptive. When you see the final performance, you can barely imagine the hours of struggle, frustration, pain, and grit that paved the way. Ask an artist and they’d gladly make that journey again and again. Dad’s latest ‘Ballerina’ in acrylic.

Sometimes it just takes a tiny light to ruin the densest darkness, one progressive mind to alter the course of humanity
forever and the love in one little heart to combat all the hatred in the world. Dad’s latest work in soft pastel for Diwali.

Where religion divides, art can unite. We just need to allow it. Dad’s latest in charcoal on paper

“If only we knew how to speak to animals, we wouldn’t need therapists. They love, they listen, they support and they don’t charge you by the hour.”  – a friend.  Dad’s latest in soft pastel on paper

Some twenty years ago, while looking at an Autumn sky: Me: Those clouds look like candy floss. Granny: No, they are all the old ladies in heaven drying out their hair after a trip to the salon! Me: Why does Goddess Durga have ten hands? Granny: Because she is a woman. Women are powerful and they can multi-task. Me: I want to be a Goddess when I grow up. Granny: You are already a Goddess. Every woman around you is a type of Goddess…loving, capable, hard-working, caring and talented. Always remember that. Here’s wishing my wise granny an amazing hair day at the heavenly salons 🙂 My dad’s latest artwork ‘Agomoni’,- the arrival of the Goddess.

There is chaos about this place. The loud ringing of copper bells, brightly coloured flowers strewn all around, the sonorous blows of conch resonating through the giant pillars, beggars bargaining professionally with visitors, children running around in free abandon, the chants and prayers echoing through the overhead microphone and the many believers looking to take a quick dip and purge sins in the Ganges river that babbles by. But despite the chaos, there is a sense of hope and peace. A peace that comes from seeing the millions that come here day after day with a fervent prayer on their lips and desperate faith in their hearts. Dad captures this beautiful chaos through his latest work in ink pen. (The Dakshineshwar Temple circa 1924)

When one belongs to a generation that chooses art over selfies, to capture beautiful moments forever. A boat ride on the river Yamuna at sunset with the Taj Mahal for company.

This leopard skin-wearing, dreadlock-bearing, snake-wielding, weed-smoking, benevolent Lord Shiva, in Hindu mythology embodies love, peace and wisdom until his anger is triggered. Then with his legendary rage unleashed, he dances his way to destroy all in his path. Yes, Hindu Gods are no less than rockstars. Dad’s latest work in acrylic.
