*CHANGING SLOWLY*
Can i, at this stage of life’s journey,
gently move towards
a state of calm and stillness,
which only a few years ago
felt like a distant dream?
Now, i choose the early morning,
before the rising sun,
alone yet not lonely,
in the company of Mother Nature
in the nearby park.
I trade comfort for discipline,
for the sake of this body —
fragile and decaying,
after serving tirelessly
for more than fourscore years.
Now, i choose a busy day,
filled with household chores,
meeting daily needs
and engaging in activities,
simple but purposeful.
Thus, i keep my mind occupied
with satisfying deeds,
steering away from the shadows
of negativity that age often brings.
Now, i choose a restful afternoon,
after a simple, grateful lunch,
with music, a book,
and an hour of healing nap.
Now, i choose a quiet evening,
away from mobile and TV screens,
for a couple of hours,
with pranayama and meditation,
to calm my restless mind.
Now, i choose a night of ease,
after early supper and a slow walk,
followed by a film, some music,
or a simple game on my mobile —
to keep stray thoughts at bay,
though they spill over sometimes
into my vanishing dreams.
Life is changing —
the perpetual chaos within me
settling grain by grain,
slowly but surely.
It is not easy,
yet difficulties strengthen me,
guiding my steps
towards tranquillity and peace,
which are the things now i long for.
