Friends in Twilight

Author: Kamal Acharyya | Posted on: 30th, Sep, 2023

Besides a few friends,
whom I can count on my fingers,
there are two very close ones
in these twilight years –
my memories
and my loneliness!

Memories of those,
who no longer reconnect or communicate,
maybe, they don’t need me anymore,
though I haven’t forgotten them as yet
as I do need them even now and then
for the sake of company in my thoughts!

And memories of those,
who are still present in my life
as they need me,
and I need them even more
in all my struggles and good times,
in all my joy, happiness, and sorrow!

Let these memories
build a bridge
on my lonely stream of life
for me to cross over easily
into eternity
on the other side!

The other close friend of mine,
my loneliness,
draws me inside more and more
helps me to look deep within
gives me enough mental strength
to cope with my decaying body
of four scores, fragile and old!

Loneliness makes me naughty
to play with my mind
like a child,
I can dream of things
which I wish
one day will come true!

With these two close friends –
memories
and loneliness,
I spend quite a lot of time
happily within myself
in these twilight years of mine!
