No one played the bugle or any music, loud or mellow,
And neither the moon nor sun shined when I was born-
But it appears that my birth on this wide- open Earth
Resembles the voyages in a ship, loaded with scorn!
The giant twilights in the sky didn’t glitter,
And the dark-browed nights hid under veil-
As my fate glided since, but moved steadily,
Over the sands of time, bemused in my tale!
The formative years were rickety, ragged, and brown,
And mother was hollow-eyed when our voyage begun-
And the darkest hours of our hardships and daily grinds,
Went through the brooding silence of nights on the run!
The silent lips and eyes spoke of her inner joy,
And the full vigor through her shoulder pride-
As I was growing by leaps and bounds,
And I knew, for her sake, I must stride!
Throughout the life, her voyage ship without a cargo,
Had no enemies or captives on board or on the deck-
And the heaps of money, lies, spices, or gold bullions
Were never an occupant to tremor and make her shake!
Her simplicity, smile, and undying love for humanity
Built the “steely pedestal” on which she firmly stood-
And the selfless sacrifice for all strangers weaved the flag,
Hoisted proudly on the deck of her voyage ship for good!!
