Seeing Spring From Far Away

Author: Anoushka Chowdhury | Posted on: 2nd, May, 2020

  1. Since Corona broke out, how is life?

Coronavirus started spreading in the USA around the end of February in 2020. This virus is so powerful that hundreds of thousands of people from all over the world have already succumbed to it. People started fearing for shortages for access to the hospitals in the time of emergency. There is a huge scarcity of food. Schools, offices, and all other public spaces including markets are closed.  Normal life has switched to working from home, remote schooling, and staring at screens for hours. When my brother starts elementary school next season, he will have to contain his first experience of school to online classes. Lots of sad things are happening during the time of coronavirus. Thousands of people are dying every day. Everybody is scared of the future and wondering when life will return to normal.

  1. How is spring one of my favorite seasons?

I love spring because during this time nature starts to awaken. The blooms and green leaves are the attractions that would usually drag me outside. I always wait for spring to come so I can draw naturescape and discover new things. But now I barely can go out and enjoy all of the beauty. Just from inside my room, I would look out and wonder when I would finally be able to go out there. Spring is beautiful. As it is already April now, I badly wish the Coronavirus would go away.

  1. Spring gardening. Blooming my favorite flowers.

Last year after we planted many flower plants, our yard turned so beautiful with hues of color. I loved tulips, sunflowers, daffodils, etc because each has different complex designs of petals and palette of colors. When I have them around me, I feel more comfortable. Flowers had given me lots of pride in growing them in my backyard. I was so disciplined to regularly take care of them by watering and tidying up the growth. Fortunately, some bulbs planted last fall are about to bloom in no time. The good news is they do not need any care like other summer flowers. Now, I am trying to not worry a lot about the news that scares people and enjoy nature as much as I can.

  1. I am a spring girl and how am I going to celebrate?.

I am a spring girl because my birthday is on April 27. I celebrated my birthday a little differently; thanks to this miserable time. However, I am planning to celebrate indoors with my family and that will be as much of a  festive evening like before. I will still celebrate my belated birthday with my friends after the restriction of social distancing is lifted. I would wish to have a better birthday party on time. But now, we are more focused on this struggle against the menace of Corona, unleashed in our community at large.

  1. Spring bloom is seen from inside the house? Daffodils, neighbor’s lawn?

I could still see beautiful things in my house. But they are not as close as to how I would usually enjoy. When I am outside, I would go around touching, sniffing, or picking some flowers as my heart would command me to. Plants make me feel more alive inside and happy. Life is dull behind masks. But I can still enjoy the beauty of spring as much, through my eyes from behind the window, opening up to the backyard.

  1. How do I plan to engage? Learning new skills, through online meet-ups?

I try to contact friends through the internet to chat & play. Even I would spend time with my family watching movies, TV shows, and playing board games together. I sometimes take up craft projects like knitting, sewing, making yarn chandeliers, slime, etc. I always find different ways to engage myself either by learning new ideas from the internet or discover one all by myself. When I do crafts, I enjoy my time so much that I completely forget how time is spent so fast.

  1. Where do I see the end to this? School starting, activities resuming..,

Coronavirus took over the world by scaring everyone. We need Corona to die!! For this to happen, each of us has to follow the rules. This is a sad moment in life seeing thousands of people dying from coronavirus.  But this will not end unless we stay positive and follow the rules of social distancing.
