To the ones in love with the idea of sadness,
You might come off as a melancholic person to the ones around you.
And why wouldn’t they assume so?
You listen to sad songs with lyrics so deep they carve notes on our soul,
you like reading stories that you know have a not so happy ending.
You can instantly recognize people of your kind, just by their eyes.
Or maybe a conversation.
You might not be the life of every party, but you are what remains after the party is over.
People like you stay back when the bright phase of our life is over.
It’s solely because you might have been there, you know what it is to feel broken beyond repair.
You probably can’t paint words of joy and ecstasy.
You’d rather be left with Gulzar Sahab’s poetry on your mind and nukkad ki chai in your hands.
You believe we’ve glorified happiness enough.
So much as to not even consider pain to be legitimate.
Hence you give it the space it deserves. And rightly so.
I know you don’t pray for a happy ending.
Heck, you don’t even care about the ending.
You care about how you always believe in love, no matter where it takes you.
After all, broken crayons still colour and broken hearts still love!
