My World

Author: Kamal Acharyya | Posted on: 11th, Jan, 2025

So many known faces all around
“Hello”, “Hi” is the response
whenever i meet them any time,
of course, there is silence thereafter
no words for some time on both sides,
at the most “how are you”, “all ok”
or “going to market” or an enquiring gesture
with a smile before a quick departure!

There are many neighbors, acquaintances
and familiar faces in my community –
mostly young ones still working and busy,
a greeting with a smile or a nod
is all that i get when we meet suddenly;
besides those, there are quite a few
retired elderly people like me
who meet in the park after morning walk,
spend time talking and gossiping
on all the subjects on the earth!

In the virtual world i am member
of so many WhatsApp groups,
besides being friends to so many
in my Facebook account;
whole day and night the game goes on –
posting, receiving, forwarding, liking…..
good morning messages in the early hours,
photos, stories, videos, reels,
good-wish messages on birthday, anniversary…..
responding with comments and/or emojis!

None of my childhood friends,
friends of my school/college days
are with me around nowadays,
they are scattered all around the globe,
we communicate once in a while over phone;
of course, there are a few old age friends
in the community, where i presenty reside,
we meet in parties on special occasions
or otherwise and eagerly await
for fun and floric in such get-togethers!

Besides these, i have my relations
and dear ones – some far off, some near,
but they are all very close to my heart,
i can open up my mind,
to share my pain and despair,
or enjoy pleasure and laughter;
nothing is secret to them,
with their support and help
i want to spend rest of my twilight
years with peace and happiness!

Relations, friends, acquaintances, neighbors,
all the virtual friends on the social media,
they are my family, they are my world;
i am happy, at least they are there, together,
we’ll face life’s hopes and fears
in my journey for the remaining years!!
