I Want To Be Reborn

Author: Kamal Acharyya | Posted on: 28th, Feb, 2025

Following is the writer’s response to the present hype of mahakumbh.

I don’t want to attain moksha,
or mukti or emancipation,
or nirvana or release,
nor want freedom from samshar –
the eternal cycle of
birth, death and rebirth…..

I want to be born
in this beautiful world
again and again and again…..

That’s why i didn’t take a dip
in sangam during mahakumbh,
nor did i pour milk on shivalingas
in all the 12 Jyotirlingas one by one
nor did i visit as many of
51 Pithashtans scattered all over
nor did i visit the innumerable
temples of Bishnu, Shiva, Kali, Krishna, Rama, Hanuman…….
to seek their blessings,
nor did i do so many other rituals
dictated by the religious Gurus….
to wash all my sins
and attain moksha or release!

So i shall definitely be reborn ……

Yes, i want to take birth
again and again ….
to continue the endless human endeavor
to fathom the mysteries
of this wonderful world,
to contribute to the continuous
search to know the unknowns,
to connect in my limited capacity
with whatever is logical and righteous!

Yes, i want to take birth
again and again ….
to live each life to the fullest,
enjoying the beauty of
all the creations of mother nature,
till such time we ourselves
ultimately destroy this beautiful world
to satisfy our endless grid and lust for power
through climate change,
atomic war, alien invasion
or otherwise!!

Yes, i want to be reborn again and again…
to live life with you ever again,
to pursue all our dreams
with determination and hopes,
one life after the other
always together,
sharing our pain and sorrow,
giving happiness as much as possible,
loving each other all along!!!

  2. What a poem! What a thought! First thing I read today and was fully consumed by it. Felt the echoes of Tagor’s “Moritay Chahina Aami Shundor Bhuboney; Manober majhey aami banchibarey chai!

A dip in kumbha, or any pilgrimage, puja, rituals would not help unless the heart is pure, and mind is conscious, receptive and ready , otherwise these are mere festivities and fun, but unharmful. I would neither envy people pursuing these nor judge or pity them for wasting their time. Mother earth offers so much to appreciate and enjoy in life, but its inhabitants, mostly humans, out of greed and selfishness, make it hard to realize and enjoy . I am not sure if quality of life here would be better for our grand children and if I would like to be born again, to suffer and see sufferings all around me. I only wish I would be able to help with my limited capability, time and resource in this life (and beyond, if and when reborn) to make lives of the near and dear ones in my family, relatives and friends, and community a little more bearable and enjoyable. I beleive life here would be worthwhile and blissful if we could embrace with conviction and follow the path of “Vibek and Vairagya” [ discretion and detachment], perform all works as service to the Lord without looking for rewards in this material world, as prescribed in the scriptures. I would Leave it to Him to decide my future here and here after; be it more rebirths or Liberation.
