Expectations hurt

Expectations hurt

In her red shoes
she’s still seventeen
expecting
spring to return

except it never did

in his forty
he finally felt lonely
expecting
years to rewind

except it never did

what are you expecting
out of a kiss?
what if
your kisser
just kissing you with two lips
while you him
with all of your heart?

hurts like a knife
into tongue

expectations
lead us to nowhere
but a room
full of gloom

expect less
for seasons must change
and people must go

expect less
in a world full of hate

expect less
from
expect less
from love
for love shall pass

expect less
from life
for life is floating away

expect less
from a bed, broken
when sex ends

expect none
from your lover
with a gun

expect none
off hearts know not
how to love

expect
none
expectation hurts.
