As Memories Cling

Author: Hillol Ray | Posted on: 21st, May, 2018

On this adopted land, the relentless shores of silence
Remind me the special day when I came-
To look for fortune pebbles, near Potomac River,
Followed by the rock-n-roll and fame!
My curious eyes watched the pebbles,
As they began to nibble, flip, and turn-
In the murky water, bounced over the bank,
And my memories began to churn!
The ripples of life may gather no moss,
But they move with last breath sometime-
And the mists, hovering with hopeless smell,
Swoop down to prolong the winds’ chime!

On my rocking chair, the brightest memories
Now seem to dwell, swell, swim and sink-
As I watch the retired birds, with last ray of sunlight
On their wings, and they teach me to think!
Within me, as I snooze, of the days gone by,
Thoughts are quietly hopping and popping-
And at Longwood Garden, I see with half-eyes closed,
A woodcutter with an axe is neatly chopping!
Decades have come and gone, on my adopted land,
And they graciously fenced me off to not to think-
While they taught, pebbles in the ripples of life,
Will linger or graze, and thrive with a simple kink!

To date, I have cherished the dawns and dusks,
On this “Pandov-deserted” adopted land-
And skipped the aromas of fragrances tactfully,
Of my motherland with her desert sand!
Deep within my soul, memories now cling and click,
To wrap them slowly round and round-
And keep me going on a mental swing,
With somber meditation, less the cymbal sound!
At times, the memories flow like molasses in summer,
Or sometimes, they skip the edges of years before-
And teach me to catch the one-way flight to heaven,
For mental peace and happiness, and nothing more!!
